Alkagesta has agreed to acquire Energy Petrol, an independent marine fuel distributor in Türkiye, in a transaction that will give the trader its first owned vessels. In a company announcement reviewing international press coverage, Alkagesta said the purchase had received approval from the Turkish Competition Authority and included eight bunkering vessels.
The transaction also covers a long-term lease for 28,000 cubic metres of tank capacity at the Altıntel terminal in Gebze. According to Alkagesta, this will take the total oil products storage capacity under the company to approximately 728,000 cubic metres. The agreement therefore adds both a bunkering fleet and leased terminal capacity to its existing business.
Energy Petrol was founded in 1997 and is described in the announcement as the third-largest physical marine fuel supplier in the port of Istanbul. Alkagesta said the business would retain its existing brand and customer base and continue operating independently following the acquisition, rather than being absorbed into the buyer’s trading identity.
Alkagesta’s account of the media coverage presented the purchase as a move beyond wholesale marine fuel trading into direct distribution to end users. The company had previously chartered vessels rather than owned them. It cited reports that its traded volume reached 4.9 million tonnes in the first half of 2026, an increase of 53% from a year earlier.
The announcement also said several publications had reported an established commercial relationship between the businesses: Alkagesta had supplied Energy Petrol on a wholesale basis for several years. Those reports, as summarised by the company, said Alkagesta secured the acquisition through a competitive sale process involving other trading houses and major industry participants.
Asad Huseynov, Alkagesta’s managing director of investments and asset management, linked the transaction to a broader shift in commodity markets towards deeper asset ownership and business models designed for long-term sustainability.
