Alkagesta said it had completed a week of conference sessions and industry meetings at SIBCON 2026 in Singapore, where marine fuel diversification and supply security were prominent discussion topics. In its account of the event, the company described engagement with participants from the international shipping and bunkering sectors, alongside discussions about the sector’s near-term and longer-term development.

The company’s delegation included founder and chief executive Orkhan Rustamov; Tural Huseynov, managing director for investments and asset management; and Agshin Bakirzade, commodity trading director for APAC. Marine fuels distribution director Mithat Çiftçioğlu and senior marine fuel trader Afiq Salim also attended. Alkagesta said the programme provided opportunities to meet shipowners, bunker traders, customers, suppliers and other industry counterparts.

According to Alkagesta, conference discussions considered how biofuels, methanol and LNG could operate alongside conventional marine fuels across different ship types and trading routes. The company linked those themes to its own expansion in sustainable fuels, citing a five-year UCO feedstock offtake agreement and a multi-year arrangement for biofuel storage at Pantank in Antwerp. Those agreements were presented as examples of work already under way within its trading platform, rather than as new deals concluded at the conference.

Fuel diversification was also discussed as a way of managing supply risk, the company reported. Its account said a broader range of fuels could reduce reliance on individual sources of supply and help operators respond to continuing pressure in global energy markets. Supply security was a recurring subject throughout the week’s discussions.

Another focus was the move from decarbonisation pilot projects to commercial-scale operations. Alkagesta said industry leaders identified clearer regulation, safety frameworks and financing access as important conditions for that shift. Beyond the formal sessions, the company said its meetings supported established relationships and explored possible collaboration across the APAC region.
