India showed the strongest sentiment among the ship recycling markets reviewed by Intermodal, while Bangladesh recorded a single bulker sale amid limited vessel availability, Hellenic Shipping News reported. The shipbroker described a mixed week, with Bangladesh, Pakistan and Turkey broadly holding their previous indications rather than following India’s firmer tone.
At Alang, higher domestic steel prices supported sentiment, although Intermodal said recent price swings suggested the market was undergoing an adjustment. The Indian currency strengthened against the dollar following Reserve Bank of India interest-rate and repo-rate interventions. Activity at recycling yards continued to draw on vessels purchased in earlier weeks, with fewer fresh candidates available to buyers.
Bangladeshi recyclers retained a strong appetite for tonnage despite the shortage of vessels on offer, according to Intermodal’s assessment carried by Hellenic Shipping News. Local steel plate prices increased, and the broker reported that one bulker transaction had been concluded during the week. The sale came against a continuing lack of recycling candidates rather than a broader increase in vessel supply.
Pakistan presented a weaker picture. Best Oasis reported reduced buying interest, partly because some purchasers had recently taken delivery of vessels. It put the fall in scrap and wire rod prices at approximately US$25–30 per tonne in dollar terms, attributing pressure on prices and demand to an influx of Iranian goods. Intermodal likewise described buyers at Gadani as reluctant to make further purchases, although its assessment placed local steel prices only slightly below the preceding week’s levels.
Turkey’s vessel recycling prices remained broadly unchanged in the Best Oasis report, despite an approximately US$9-per-tonne weekly decline in import prices. Intermodal also characterised Aliaga as stable, reporting no fresh sales and few available candidates. Looking ahead, the broker said possible sanctions relief for certain tankers could bring additional vessels to the recycling market and improve the outlook for buyers.
