Alkagesta said it attended Miller’s DayWithMiller programme and Annual Cocktail Event in Paris on 8 October, alongside more than 400 participants from the commodity trade finance and risk community. According to the company’s account, those taking part included traders, banks, investment funds, development finance institutions, insurers and reinsurers. The gathering combined a workshop programme with an evening reception.
Miller’s Credit, Surety and Political Risk team organised the daytime workshops, which featured industry speakers addressing trade credit, political risk and commodity risk management. Alkagesta described the sessions as an opportunity to discuss the financial and insurance arrangements used to support commodity trading, with topics ranging from credit and surety structures to marine cargo insurance and political risk protection.
The programme also examined how institutions approach risk management and compliance in what Alkagesta characterised as an increasingly complex operating environment. Its account placed the emphasis on discussion of the frameworks and instruments behind trading activity, rather than on individual commodity markets. The evening reception followed the workshops, providing a further opportunity for participants to develop contacts across the commodity sector’s finance and risk networks.
Alkagesta linked its participation to several stated company priorities: strengthening its risk management framework, building closer ties with insurance and reinsurance partners, and presenting the compliance and governance standards supporting its international trading business. These were the company’s stated reasons for attending; the announcement did not detail any new financing arrangements, insurance agreements or other commercial transactions resulting from the event.
The company said its operations cover petroleum products, biofuels, fertilisers and steel across approximately 48 countries. It described its network of trade finance providers, risk specialists and insurance partners as important to carrying out those activities responsibly, placing the Paris gathering within that broader set of business relationships.
