Alkavex, the steel trading arm of Alkagesta, has carried out business development visits to Tangshan and Tianjin in China, meeting steel producers, traders, processors and industry representatives. In a company announcement, Alkagesta said the engagements formed part of its continuing commercial development work in the country and supported the relationships behind Alkavex’s regional sourcing and trading operations.
Bayram Bayramli, China Business Developer at Alkagesta, led the programme of meetings. The company said discussions with manufacturers, processing businesses and industry associations gave its team first-hand insight into production capabilities, supply chain infrastructure and opportunities for international trade. The announcement described a series of engagements across the two locations rather than a visit to a single supplier, with contacts spanning several parts of the steel industry.
Alkagesta described Tangshan and Tianjin as jointly forming one of China’s most significant corridors for steel production and exports. It said the visits strengthened commercial relationships supporting Alkavex’s activities in that region. The account focused on supplier engagement and understanding the local industrial and trading network; it did not identify individual businesses visited or disclose any contracts, shipment volumes or transaction values arising from the meetings.
Based in Malta, Alkavex is a joint venture between Alkagesta and French steel trading company Navex SAS. Alkagesta holds the majority stake. According to the announcement, the venture’s initial product focus is on semi-finished and finished steel, with China providing its principal sourcing base. The visits therefore took place within the country that already underpins that stated sourcing approach.
Alkavex serves customers in both West and East Africa. Alkagesta said the venture brings together market expertise, logistics capabilities and trade finance solutions to support demand associated with construction, manufacturing and infrastructure development in those regions. The company characterised that regional demand as growing, without providing figures.
